“Mayor of Castro Street” Will NOT Delay Superman Movie IESB.net reports that "The Mayor of Castro Street" will not delay the next Superman movie as RottenTomatoes.com had recently reported... The IESB called sources in the Singer camp to see if there where any truth to the producers' statements. Here's what they had to say, "That's total horse s@#t, I would say the same thing if I was producing that film but don't you realize that most of the Superman producers are working with Bryan on Valkyrie? Gil Adler and Chris Lee both are in Germany with Bryan and I can guarantee you that there is some work being done with Superman right now." So why would Neil Meron and Craig Zadan say the contrary? "It's their job as producers to keep that movie on their front burner, but really, Bryan's deal with Warner Bros. for the Superman sequel is already done and signed and that's the priority."source: Superman Homepage

More SR sequel news... HollywoodReporter talked with WB CEO Alan Horn on a Superman sequel. "If we do a sequel to 'Superman,' we want it to be less expensive," Horn acknowledges. "I have to see a screenplay before I say yes to anything. But the studio would be willing to spend as much as $175 million if the screenplay and other factors warranted it."
Still, Singer has announced that he plans to direct a second "Superman" project."

Superman Sequel Pitch, Screenplay Coming, Kevin Spacey ReturnsVariety reports that Kevin Spacey will indeed return in the role of Lex Luthor for the next Superman movie, which Bryan Singer is about to pitch to Warner Bros., with Michael Dougherty (and presumably Dan Harris) currently sitting down to write the screenplay... "Superman" director Bryan Singer met with Spacey in New York while the latter was appearing on Broadway in Eugene O'Neill's recently wrapped "Moon for the Misbegotten." Singer was about to pitch his "Man of Steel" sequel to Warner Bros.; "Superman Returns" scripter Michael Dougherty is now writing the screenplay. Spacey hopes to shoot his Luthor role in a six-week block, as he did on "Superman Returns," after he completes his run in David Mamet's "Speed the Plow" in April. Spacey, who has eight years remaining on his 10-year contract as artistic director of London's Old Vic Theater, corrected recent Internet stories announcing his retirement from film acting in favor of the stage. "My priorities have changed," he admitted on the phone from London. "Theater is the No. 1 thing in my life. But I love movies and will continue to make movies when I can." On Tuesday, Spacey told Daily Variety, "In no way did I use the word retirement. Someone else pulled that out of thin air. It's false, there's not a lick of truth to it." Two Villains in Man of Steel?Originally Posted by Brain of BlueTights.net's The Planet forum: I am a police officer at the U.S. Capitol. Today while I was making my way through the Capitol, I ran into Mike Dougherty as he was on a tour of the building. I thought he looked familiar, so I asked him if his name was Mike. He looked startled probably because a police officer was asking. He responded, "Yes." I said, "You look familiar. Are you Mike Dougherty?" His eyes lit up and he said, "Yes. Do I know you?" I told him no and that I was just a huge fan of Superman Returns and appreciated the fact that they put the franchise back on the big screen. He was shocked saying, "I never figured anyone would be able to recognize me." Now to the good stuff... I asked him if he was apart of the sequal because everything I have seen says Singer and Harris are writing the script and that he isn't mentioned. He confirmed that he is writing it with the two just like the last picture. I then expressed to him that I was hoping the delays of Superman: The Man of Steel weren't true. He said that they were on track and that the goal is still to have the movie out in the Summer of 2009. He seemed a little hesitant about it but did his best to try and reassure that it will get done by then. I asked if he could give any more info on the film. He responded, "There are TWO villains," and he smiled.Luckily I happened to have my digital camera on me because of a report I had to do. I am aware that there have been rumors and possible hints to this. Just figured everyone could use the good news and put the fans out there at ease. Here's a pic of Brian and SR writer Mike Dougherty:

IESB Exclusive: The Latest on the Upcoming Justice League of America Film! Written by Robert Sanchez Friday, 17 August 2007 Will the Justice League of America live action feature film ever get off the ground? Much sooner than you may expect!
When the news broke that JLA (Justice League of America) was moving forward with a script written by Kiernan and Michele Mulroney, speculations began that the follow-up to Superman Returns, The Man of Steel, would be delayed or even completely scrapped.
WB studio sources quickly said that was just mere speculation and The Man of Steel was still planned for a first quarter 2008 start date. Even recently, Brandon Routh told us the same thing during a quick red carpet interview at the premiere for Transformers.
At the same time, we are hearing some execs over WB were not happy with the way Superman Returns performed regardless of the $390 million plus worldwide box office take and that’s why Justice League is being pushed through the studio at a record pace.
The JLA script has been received with open arms by Warners and the goal is for the film to be the launching point for The Flash, Wonder Woman, The Green Lantern and Aquaman as well as rejuvenate Superman.
When do the powers-that-be want to start production on Justice League? Apparently, as soon as the first quarter of 2008, that’s right, WB sources have informed the IESB that execs behind the Justice League of America want it to be in production as early as February/March 2008 to be ready for a summer of 2009 release.
What’s the rush? The pending strikes are definitely one of the reasons that Warner Bros. wants to move quickly on the ensemble pic. They also want to start building a fan base behind the new heroes that will help them go on to have their own stand-alone films.
Some questions arise. What will happen to The Man of Steel film that Bryan Singer has already signed on to do? Would Warner Brothers be willing to lose the money they would have to pay to Singer regardless if he directs the film or not? Will Christian Bale and Brandon Routh reprise their roles as Batman and Superman?
Some rumors indicate that studio execs have considered recasting Superman and a few names have popped up. But the honest truth is that the studio just does not know at this time whether Routh will return or not. We’ll just have to wait and see.
And Batman? If Justice League starts production early ‘08 that would give Bale a three to five month break between “Batman” films. Would he do it? Would the production team behind the Batman films be accommodating? Would they allow one of their three-picture-options with Bale to be used on an ensemble film? Would Justice League be the last Batman film that Bale takes part in?
Those questions are the ones I have been trying to get answered but have not been able to get anyone to comment officially.
I want to be very clear about this, I want to see a JLA film very badly and I am pretty certain that George Miller will direct. The problem that I have is I can’t foresee the Nolan camp, including producer Charles Roven, to lose the third stand-alone Batman film by allowing Bale to JLA instead. Maybe Warners should bring a few of the Batman/TDK producers on board the JLA production to keep that camp happy.
Bottom line, the decision will come from Warner Bros., both Christian Bale and Brandon Routh are signed for a total of three films and one film can be an ensemble pic.
I have to wonder if they are willing to pay the huge amount of money to Bale to keep him for possible future JLA and Batman films. I definitely think he’s worth it but it’s not my checkbook.
Routh’s price tag is no where near Bale’s and I’d bet he’d be willing to do possible future JLA and Superman films.
Finally, what about Singer’s The Man of Steel? At this stage in the game, yes, it appears that the Man of Steel will be pushed back to accommodate Justice League.
Does that mean that Singer is out and the sequel to Superman Returns scrapped? Not likely.
As I mentioned earlier, Bryan Singer has already signed on to do The Man of Steel and his team is reportedly already working on the film. I find it hard to believe that the studio would be willing to lose the money that will have to be paid to Singer if they decide to drop the project. I just can’t see that happening.
Our sources have confirmed earlier reports that the Justice League of America film will consist of at least Superman (Clark Kent), Batman (Bruce Wayne), Wonder Woman (Princess Diana), The Flash (Barry Allen), Aquaman and the Green Lantern (John Stewart) and will follow the OMAC storyline and also feature Maxwell Lord.
Within a few weeks, George Miller should be confirmed as the director and casting should commence immediately. The priority for the studio will have to be to figure out what they are doing with Superman and Batman.
It would be a mistake on Warner Bros. part to recast Superman, Brandon did a fine job and under Miller’s direction he could do great, besides I hear that Warner Bros. really dug Bryan Singer’s take for the sequel and Michael Dougherty is already working on the new script.
Bottom line, Justice League of America will start shooting early 2008.
Stay tuned to the IESB as we bring you the latest Movie News

According Superman Homepage, Film Ick has posted a report claiming they've received information from a source within Warner Bros. on just what Bryan Singer pitched to the WB execs for his next Superman movie titled "Superman: The Man of Steel". From Film Ick: What's Gonna Come Of The Man Of Steel?I've had a great tip off that traces back to a decent source with links within Warner Bros. It reveals quite a bit of exciting info about how The Man of Steel is going to go down when Brian Singer steps back behind the camera next year. Apparently, Singer and Mike Dougherty have crafted a killer pitch and 'concept draft' that had the suits eating out of their hands and even had a knock-on effect for the plans for JLA (I'm told). Several key story points were made clear by the pre-production conceptual art, and here are some SPOILERY details of what those images revealed: There's a new Kryptonian character coming to Earth as a result of Supes' pilrgimage to Krypton that took place before Returns.
Lex makes a deal with "a new villain" (I read this as new to the films, not new to the mythos, and indeed I have some idea who it is...) in order to have Superman eradicated. This villain double crosses Lex and takes over Lexcorp (yep - sounds like Brainiac to me too). What's more, Jason is a key part in the plot to trap Superman and...
Poor little Jason. He's snuffed out. That should have some of you cheering, you fiends. So, there's a basic draft of the script (a scriptment?), pre-production art and several sequences storyboarded and, as far as I've been told, it's all going down very well with the execs. Nothing's gonna stand in the way of this film, I'm sure. And, reportedly, this one is really quite action packed with a threatening, smart double team of villains. Can't fail. Treat this as rumour, sure. If you must. I'm buying it entirely because I know where it comes from.

What the hell does "Poor little Jason. He's snuffed out" mean? They're gonna kill Superman's own child? How flipping horrible would that be?!!!! #screams9ww# Sorry, but they won't be getting any money from me if that's the case.
