Jon Peters Talks Superman Movie SequelHollywoodReporter.com interviewed Jon Peters about his career so far, and during the interview asked him about the status of the up-coming sequel to "Superman Returns". Here's an excerpt from the interview... Q: What stage is the next installment of "Superman" in? Peters: Right now, Bryan Singer is working on the story, and hopefully, that will be a script by the end of the year. And hopefully, we'll be in preproduction by, say, January or February of next year. "Superman Returns" was an amazing effort. You're talking about a story that's been made before; you're talking about the fact that we had to re-explore his youth, his origin. And now, the second movie allows us to go do things that people haven't seen before. Bryan is the best director I've ever worked with. It's very easy to produce or be with someone who's a brilliant, brilliant person. I equate my relationship with Bryan to the relationship I had with Barbra Streisand. Barbra was so gifted that it was easy to be able to adjust a little bit here or there. With Bryan, it's the same thing. He's a great person, and it's amazing cause he's such a sweet guy. He's almost like one of my kids, in a way. Q: "Superman Returns" must have been a daunting project for a director to take on. Peters: (Singer) comes up with things that blow my mind. What he did with "Superman" -- and I worked on that, obviously, through various different directors over 12 years -- is that he came up with a take that brought heart to it. It created a love story; it created a dynamic with the little boy -- things he saw that a lot of us didn't see. I saw a lot of the action. I saw the otherworldly stuff. But I didn't see what he saw, which allows you to get to the otherworldly things. Read the complete interview at the HollywoodReporter.com website.source: Superman Homepage

More Hints on SR 2 SequelCollider.com has posted up video interviews with Bryan Singer, Mike Dougherty, and Dan Harris. There are several mentions of Superman's sequel, including the many projects that Bryan's working on the side. During the interview, Dan Harris hints at multiple villains for Superman 2, topping the plane scene from Superman Returns, and a silence falls over he and Mike when General Zod is brought up. They mention that the script isn't on paper yet, but the ideas are all churning. In reference to the sequel, Mike replied "You have to listen to people, and give them what they want." One thing the interview makes very clear is that the sequel IS moving ahead when Bryan Singer finishes his WWII suspense film, Valkyrie. You can check out the interviews at the link above.Also... IESB.net has video interviews of them as well. sources: BlueTights.net | BrandonRouth.com

Brandon Routh's SPACEY Award Acceptance Speech
Superman Returns Brandon Routh made an interesting acceptance speech at the recent Canadian SPACEY Awards, in which he won the "Best Heroic Performance" award.
Making his speech via a pre-recorded video, Brandon suggested that the sequel to "Superman Returns" will likely film in Vancouver, Canada as we'd previously reported, and that (if they indeed do film the movie there) he's looking forward to it as he's never been to Canada before.
You can view a fan-recorded video of his acceptance speech via YouTube.

Also, in other SR sequel news/rumors...
Script Complete for Justice League Movie
Variety reports that the first draft for a "Justice League" movie has been completed by husband-wife writing duo Kieran Mulroney and Michele Mulroney.
One of the more ambitious projects around town - the bigscreen adaptation of DC Comics' "Justice League" - cleared a major hurdle last week.
Husband-wife writing duo Kieran Mulroney and Michele Mulroney turned in a first draft that had Warner Bros. suits actually smiling - no small feat, considering "Justice" follows a half-dozen of the best-known superheroes working together, including Batman and Superman.
But the accomplishment raises a tricky question for Warners: Should it release "Justice" before its "Superman Returns" sequel?
Christopher Nolan’s next Batman pic "The Dark Knight" bows in July 2008. Bryan Singer’s "Superman" follow-up had been expected to play in 2009. But there’s no script yet for that pic, while Singer is busy getting ready to shoot Tom Cruise starrer "Valkyrie" for UA.
The question now: Will a souped-up "Justice League" prove to be Kryptonite to Superman?
With Bryan Singer, Michael Dougherty and Dan Harris currently sitting down to write the script for the "Superman Returns" sequel, I have little doubt that the Superman project will continue to happen ahead of any "Justice League" movie.

Kitty Kowalski Returning to Superman Sequel?
According to Moviehole.net, "Parker Posey tells Moviehole that she hopes she gets to reprise her role as the ditzy Kitty Kowalski for the “Superman Returns” sequel. 'Oh I hope I’m in it.' Posey said in an interview for her new film 'Broken English.' 'Yeah, we’ll see if I’m in it. I don’t know if I am. I just talked to one of the writers last night and I meant to ask him.' Rumours have it that “Superman: The Man of Steel”, due for release in 2009, will feature General Zod, Doomsday or Braniac in the scoundrel position. No word on Lex Luthor (Kevin Spacey)

Superman 2 Delayed?According to RottenTomatoes, Bryan Singer's next project after Valkyrie is not the Superman sequel. "Bryan Singer had previously told us that the "Superman Returns" sequel "Superman: The Man of Steel" would be his next film after "Valkyrie." His producers tell another story. Neil Meron and Craig Zadan have Singer lined up to direct "The Mayor of Castro Street," a story of gay rights activist Harvey Milk, within a year. Note that this does not come from Singer himself, but rather the biopic's producers.source: BR.com

Very cool... I like the title of the new movie... I don't know if I'm ready to see Doomsday just yet, but if they write more like the novel then I may love it. Since I don't think I'm ready to see him killed off by Doomsday so I think that's partly why, but I also know he comes back to, but I guess we'll have to wait and see what the whole story plot will be... And I can wait till 2009... At least will have Christian Bale to drool over in the mean time...
