False Statement in Variety Report on Singer's Next FilmVariety reports that United Artists has green-lit Bryan Singer's next movie, in which he will team up once again with "The Usual Suspects" screenwriter Chris McQuarrie. The report also claims that the World War II film will "delay Warner Bros.' hope of mounting a sequel to Superman Returns in the near future."
The Superman Homepage has found out that this claim is false, with Warner Bros. and Bryan Singer reportedly on track to start filming the sequel to "Superman Returns" around March of 2008 as previously planned.source: Superman Homepage

Ok, for the new villain ... anyone but Zod. Zod has been done. I can't think of any other villain though. I hope they come back to Sydney to film. I'll be out in full stalker mode. lol.

From Superman Homepage site: Robert Meyer Burnett Comments on Sequel Start DateFive days ago the Superman Homepage reported that Variety's article (which claimed that the sequel to "Superman Returns" was being delayed because Bryan Singer had signed on to make a new WWII movie) was inaccurate... Now SuperHeroHype.com, Mania.com, ToonZone.net, ComicBookResources.com, and Comics2Film.com are all reporting the same thing, on the back of comments posted by Robert Meyer Burnett over at BlueTights.net who indicates that, in his opinion, the Superman sequel film will probably start filming in March 2008 as previously planned.Today's latest rumor that a Superman sequel may be dropped in favor of Superman appearing in the recently announced "Justice League" movie is simply that... rumor and speculation. There's no reason to think that Superman couldn't appear in a sequel as well as the Justice League movie.Another from Mania.comContrary to a report we ran last week, the upcoming sequel to Superman Returns is on schedule and plans to begin filming in March of 2008. Producer Robery Meyer Burnett broke the news with the following post on the BlueTights message board. "Angeloz asks if I'm coming back to work on the sequel. The answer is...I'm ALREADY working on the sequel. Bryan, Brandon and the whole merry bunch will be coming back...and filming will probably begin March, 2008, as was always planned from the beginning. The WWII film Bryan plans to shoot over the summer will have NO EFFECT whatsoever on the Superman sequel schedule."----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Let's hope that news ^ is true (crosses fingers that they're going to film the sequel early next year and not delay it)...as I was reading a lot of different comments/reactions/opinions at BlueTights.net's forum about the Variety.com's recent report of a delay in SR sequel filming due to Singer signing on to do a WWII film for Tom Cruise's new UA studio. I heard/read that Singer's a multi-tasker that he has done other projects (including his Fox hit tv show, "House" that he executive produced) at the same time as he was filming SR, so hopefully, he can work everything out with all his current projects and still do SR sequel and finished it on its aimed released for 2009. If Chris Nolan who did Batman Begins can filmed and released the movie "Prestige" (with BB's Christian Bale and Michael Cain on it) while still on pre-production for BB's sequel, "The Dark Knight," I'm sure Singer can do it too. Let's just hope we still have Singer, Brandon Routh, and the rest of SR cast & crew still on board for the sequel. *knock on wood and crosses all fingers and toes.*

Oh, interesting. Thanks for posting. I hope they'll soon announce which cast members stay for the sequel. Brandon is ovious, but what about the rest? And I'm curious which new characters they'll introduce. I'm crossing my fingers for Amanda Tapping as Maggie Sawyer - she would be so perfect in that role.

You're welcome, Mary. Here's another related SR news... Superman Staying at WarnersVariety has published a report debunking any internet rumors that Warner Bros. is dropping the Superman movie franchise in favor of a "Justice League" movie... When and if Warner's "Superman Returns" sequel gets made is a separate matter. Helmer Bryan Singer is aboard to direct, but he's going to helm a movie for United Artists first, so the timing is still a big question, as is the storyline.
One thing is for sure, though: Superman isn't flying off the Warners lot.source: Superman Homepage

Rumor: Orlando Bloom to be in SR Sequel?According to BlueTights.net, the New York Post has a "sightings" page that puts Pirates of the Carribean star Orlando Bloom with the powers that be behind Superman Returns and it's sequel: ORLANDO Bloom, "Superman Returns" producers Mindy and Jon Peters, and the movie's director, Bryan Singer, discussing roles in the upcoming "Superman" at the Tower Bar restaurant in Hollywood. My money's on this being just a sighting, and no one knows what they were actually talking about. Remember when Bryan Singer had dinner with Hugh Jackman and people swore up and down it was for a part in Superman Returns? We saw how that turned out. It's possible that the team is looking to pick up Kate Bosworth's ex-beau for a role in Man of Steel, but for now let's just say that the four had drinks together, and wait for something more definitive on the matter.

I admitt that I haven't been following the Kate gossip lately, but I know she and Orlando broke up. So wouldn't it be uncomfortable for both of them to be working on the same movie? Unless Singer has been listening to all the nay-sayers and is going to replace Kate with another actress - but somehow I can't believe that...
Why can't there be a report stating that Singer has been talking with Amanda Tapping because he wants her to play Maggie Sawyer in The Man of Steel? And Kurt Russel for General Lane! #smash#

I all for Kurt Russel or Michael Ironside for General Lane! Be great to see both characters in the movies.

Ironside was perfect, but I suppose the movies can't use him since he appeared in SV. That's why I'm rooting for Kurt. I can so see him and Kate's Lois having an argument why Richard's not good enough for her. Yay for Gen. Lane! #laugh# And your DA icons are missing Neville.

#laugh# Would total go for a scene like that or any with General Lane. And your DA icons are missing Neville. I know! I can't believe they gave us a pic of Cho and not Neville!!! She is not that important. ( WB makes me mad with some of the stunts they pull ) ETA: I change my icons to the other HP set I have... this one includes Neville. ;D
