Brandon Routh Looking For More Fights In "Superman Returns 2" RT-News writes: "One of the fans' complaints about "Superman Returns" was that Superman didn't actually fight anyone in it. Now that a sequel has been announced, the filmmakers seem to be answering the fans. Star Brandon Routh told Rotten Tomatoes that he's looking forward to coming to blows. "Bryan [Singer] said at Comic-Con they were going to add some more fighting elements and stuff like that," said Routh. "That might be kind of interesting to throw some punches or throw something, I don't know, a little more active." Routh is going to have to hit the gym again to get back into fighting shape, but not just yet. "I think I've got a while. We probably won't start for another at least six months. They've got to get things written so I'm still in the gym. I still work out a little bit but certainly not as much as I had been." Simply as a fan, Routh is eager to get that first draft. "I'm extremely excited, even though I don't know what the story's going to be, to find out what the story's going to be and excited for them, Bryan, Dan [Harris] and Mike [Dougherty] to go start writing and continue the story. I'm excited to see what happens, where the characters are going to go." Source: www.rottentomatoes.com/news/comments/?entryid=376876

Superman Sequel Has A Working Title
A few weeks ago, we broke the story that director Bryan Singer had signed on to direct the sequel to Superman Returns. This week, we can reveal that the new film does in fact have a working title.
While we can’t guarantee that this will be the final title of the film, as of right now the sequel project is being referred to as Superman: The Man of Steel.
What you think?
For me, I like it. Simple, nostalgic…it conjures up thoughts of major action that was lacking a bit in “Returns.” Actually, it’s very similar to Nolan’s The Dark Knight, if they decide to drop the Superman part.
I contacted the reps over at Warner Bros. to ask if they had any comment regarding the working title. The official response earlier today was "no comment."
Update
We just received a quick note from a WB rep who believes that the working title of The Man of Steel may not be accurate. We have double checked our sources and we are being told that even though it is early, that is the name being used for now.
So while it’s too early to tell what to expect in the new film, considering there is no script as of yet, Bryan and his merry band of writers know exactly where they are headed.
Like any good filmmaker, Bryan has laid the groundwork and has confirmed there are many clues in “Returns” that hint to what direction the sequel will take. He has also said that the next film will be very, “Wrath of Khan.”
If I had to take an educated guess, Jason White, his love child with Lois Lane, is going to be a big focus of the sequel. If I had to take another educated guess, Superman will be challenged by his old nemesis, General Zod.
However, Zod will not be alone in his quest of vengeance against Jo-Rel and his son Ka-Lel. I believe that Zod will team up with other villains and maybe, just maybe, his cross hairs will be aimed directly at The Man of Steel’s heir, Jason White.
What’s for certain? Only that The Man of Steel will be back on the big screen mid-2009.

Thanks Mary for that interesting news. That working title sounds good to me. Here's another sequel news... Sequel to 'Superman Returns' due in 2009By Michael Tsai Advertiser Staff Writer The sequel to "Superman Returns," which grossed nearly $200 million in the U.S. this year, will likely hit theaters in 2009, University of Hawai'i Academy for Creative Media director Chris Lee confirmed today. Lee, who will return as executive producer of the film, hosted "Superman Returns" director Bryan Singer and producer Jon Peters at a wide-ranging discussion with ACM students today at UH. Singer and Peters are in Honolulu this week to celebrate Lee's birthday, and to begin planning the next Superman film, which will likely begin production mid- to late next year in a location yet to be determined. "Superman Returns" was shot in Sydney, Australia, with four ACM students serving as interns. Singer acknowledged that he has also been approached to direct the next "X-Men" movie — he directed the first two well-received films before turning over the reigns for the third installment to Brett Ratner — but said he wouldn't have time to take on another large-scale project before the next Superman gets underway. He is interested, however, in seeing the script for the "X-Men" spinoff "Wolverine." While Lee said that planning for the next Superman film is just getting underway, he did say that he would once again look at using Hawai'i-based businesses for some of the post-production. source: The Honolulu Advertiser

^^ I like the title too. But I would prefer: The Man of Tomorrow. It has this utopian ring to it and could refer to Superman, but also to Jason. I think the film should be Jason's story; he's like the next Harry Potter.

Routh to Suit Up for Superman SequelBrandon Routh did a pretty bang-up job saving the world last time, so…he's getting at least one more chance to do it again. The Superman Returns star told E! Online Thursday that he'll be teaming up again with director Bryan Singer for a sequel due out sometime in 2009. "Well, they've publicized that Bryan had finished his deal, which was the lynchpin, I think, in the whole talk about a sequel, so everything looks to be heading that way," Routh said at a DVD and videogame launch party for the film that turned the former soap opera actor into a brand name. "I'm certainly excited to do another one. I don't think we'll start for awhile since we have a 2009 release, but I'm excited about the potential.” In preparing for the role the first time around, Routh said that he wanted to make sure his 21st-century Superman was both a character of his own creation and an homage to the actors who have suited up before him. "I certainly looked at Christopher Reeve's performance because he was my Superman, and I knew Superman from him and from watching him many, many times," the 27-year-old Iowa native said. "So definitely I took that energy and the spirit that he has from the character, because it was important that there be a familiar feeling for fans, for audiences to make that transition from watching him to watching this new person. "I definitely was aware of that. But I just knew within myself what it was I wanted to do—how I wanted to move, how I wanted to fly, speak, all of those things." Singer inked a deal with Warner Bros. late last month to produce and direct a sequel. While Superman Returns, which hit wide release on June 28, currently ranks as the fifth-highest grossing film of 2006 domestically, the studio—not to mention comic book fans—was expecting the Man of Steel's first big-screen appearance since 1987 to attract a bigger box office. The movie didn't cross the $200 million mark in U.S. theaters until the weekend of Oct. 20-22. It has grossed about $391 million worldwide, per BoxOfficeMojo.com. But everyone knows that films have a crazy way of making money even after they've left the multiplex. Superman Returns on DVD goes on sale Nov. 28 in both single-disc and two-disc special edition versions. And speaking of franchise, now the modern-day Superman has a videogame to call his own, as well. Superman Returns: The Videogame, in stores Nov. 20, features pixilated versions of Routh, Kate Bosworth (Lois Lane), Kevin Spacey (Lex Luthor), Parker Posey (Kitty Kowalski) and Sam Huntington (Jimmy Olsen), all of whom lent their voices to the game. The next few years are shaping up to be pretty busy for our favorite comic book/cartoon/TV show/film franchise heroes. Before Superman soars again, Spider-Man 3 spins its web in May 2007, and 2008 promises to be the year of The Dark Knight, featuring Christian Bale once again as the Caped Crusader and Heath Ledger as the Joker. But if it came down to a battle among the big three, you know who would win, right? "They're all great guys and they do a lot of good things, but let's be honest with ourselves," Routh humbly surmised. "Superman is the world's greatest protector. So unless Batman's got some kryptonite in his utility belt, or Spider-Man's got kryptonite in his webs, there's pretty much no stopping Superman. "He wouldn't do too much damage though, because he's a nice guy," Routh assured us. "He'd probably just lock them up somewhere." source: E! News Online

"Superman Returns" Costars Anticipate SequelFtopel writes: "The DVD launch party for "Superman Returns" allowed all the costars of the film to request personal favors of the writers just now getting to work on the script. Sam Huntington, who plays Jimmy Olsen, wants to log some air time. "I'm just hoping I fall out of a building or something," Hungtington said. "Something where he has to catch me and pick me up." Then he joked with us about getting back to the gym for the 2007 start date. "It's going to be an all out brawl in the next one. It's going to be some serious stuff going on between the Man of Steel and myself, the new Man of Steel. The Man of Iron is what I’m going to call myself." Tristan Lake Leabu, who plays Lois Lane's son and an obvious superkid, is hoping for some more action as well. "I most want to fly and I just want to mainly fly," said the five-year-old. "I'm looking forward to get more super powers than this one."Eva Marie Saint, who plays Martha Kent, wants to give Lois some parenting tips. She too has raised a super son. "The point is I have a grandson now," said Saint. "I can give Lois a few instructions, what to do, how to do it. Maybe I'll get to fly which I wanted to do in this one." Of course, everyone wants to fly. Saint also had a costar deleted from the film. Ben Hubbard (James Karen) was to be Martha's new boyfriend, so hopefully he'll make it into the sequel. "It would be fun to bring him back, maybe to have a boyfriend. She's a lady who’s on the farm and he's been gone, as I say in the film. He can do everything but the world keeps spinning meaning I have a life and you're gone, so it made her an interesting lady." Only Stephan Bender, the teenage Clark Kent in "Superman Returns," did not know if there would be another flashback requiring his services. "I don't know yet," Bender said. "They just said they're going to release the next one so I'm looking forward to seeing if they will [write me in]." soure: Rottentomatoes.com
